New Homes for Local People

Cllr Cleary and Pauline Davies (local resident who named the scheme) cut the tape to mark the official opening of Meybury Close.

THIRTEEN new affordable homes have been officially opened at Meybury Close, Bransgore.

Meybury Close is a Western Challenge Housing Association scheme providing a mix of housing for rent and for shared ownership (part rent – part buy).  It has been built in partnership with New Forest District Council who has nominated residents, with a local connection, to the properties.

Cllr Jill Cleary, Portfolio Holder for Housing at New Forest District Council officially opened the scheme saying,” Well done to all those involved in the creation of an excellent scheme that is providing homes for local people.”

The homes have been constructed by Parsons and Joyce and the architect and client representative is Ellis Belk both are locally based.

Pauline Davies, local resident added,” Meybury Close has not only provided homes but created a much safer place to live.”

Meybury Close cost £1.3million to build and was grant funded to the tune of £500,000 by the Housing Corporation.  The scheme has been built with flexibility in mind.  The homes allow for future changes in the household with minimal alterations to the fabric of the building i.e. the building can be extended into the roof space as the family grows during the lifetime of the property. The homes encompass ‘Lifetime Homes’ standards.

Maureen Robinson, Board Member of Spectrum Housing Group said at the opening,” This is an excellent example of partnership working to create affordable homes through rent and home ownership for local people.  We would like to thank; New Forest District Council for

their continued support, our constructors and contractors and Spectrum’s development team for making the scheme happen.  We would also like to wish our residents happiness in their new homes.”

Western Challenge Housing Association also has Shared Ownership properties available at Little Haven, Langdown, near Hythe – prices start from £72,500 (based on a 50% part buy- part rent share).  Those interested should contact Western Challenge on 01425 283 601.
